Tuition Assistance

Overview

Fanny Edel Falk Laboratory School is committed to educating a student body that is diverse in economic, social, and ethnic backgrounds, as well as in interests and talents.  The mission of the tuition aid program is to offer financial support to students for whom Falk’s educational opportunities would not otherwise be available.

Tuition aid funding is supported through the annual Falk operating budget, the Falk School Scholarship Fund, the Roy J. Creek Excellence in Teaching Fund, the School of Education and funds received through the PA EITC program.

Tuition aid is intended to address tuition and academic fees only and is not available for after-school programs.

Tuition aid is need-based so each year families must reapply and submit supporting documentation to the FACTS Grant & Aid Assessment Service.  Falk utilizes this online service to assess a family’s ability to pay for private education and to help families feel confident that their request for financial aid is being treated objectively and professionally. FACTS services over 2,600 institutions and is known for the excellent customer service it provides via phone or email.

Applying for tuition assistance has no bearing on admissions decisions and all financial information is held in the strictest confidence.

 Tuition Assistance Process for  2012-2013

  1. Review the Falk School Tuition Assistance Policy (pdf) (12-09-10 revision).
  2. Complete and submit the FACTS online application for school year 2012-2013 at www.factstuitionaid.com. There is a $25.00 fee.  Falk does not offer paper applications so for families without a home computer, we recommend using your local library.  Or you may call us to schedule time on a Falk computer.  New* and returning families must submit the online application by February 1, 2012.
  3. All families applying for aid will receive an estimated award notice so they can make an informed decision about enrollment or continued enrollment at Falk School. This estimated award is NOT finalized until supporting documentation is submitted to and verified by FACTS.
  4. New and returning families should mail or fax all supporting documentation to FACTS Grant & Aid Assessment Service. For your convenience, download our 2012 Tuition Aid Checklist (pdf), which includes a fax number and mailing address for FACTS.  New and returning families must submit supporting documentation by March 31, 2012.
  5. FACTS will analyze and verify your information and make a recommendation to Falk School.
  6. The Falk School Financial Aid committee reviews the FACTS report and supporting documentation to make an informed decision about your tuition aid award.
  7. The committee’s decision is formally communicated to the family via postal mail. A family’s file must be complete before an award is finalized. So be sure to read our policy document, be mindful of all deadlines, and be responsive to emails and letters from FACTS or Falk School.

*New families applying after Feb.1 should follow the March 31 deadline for both application and supporting documents. After March 31, contact Lori Wertz at 412-648-1562 or by email at lwertz@pitt.edu.
